Pot O’ Gold

Pot of Gold, St. Patrick's Day, Rainbow, Party, Favor, Candy, Skittles, Twizzlers, Chocolate Coins

Are you in need of a party favor for your little one’s upcoming St. Patrick’s Day event?

Are you running out of time and patience in the craft department?

Well, these candy cups are not that difficult to assemble.

And when it’s all said and done, you’ll feel just like Martha…

But without the pressure and responsibility of governing a home economics empire!

You will need the following items:

  • Black paper cups (1 package)
  • Gold coin chocolates (20 pieces)
  • Skittles (3-14oz. bags)
  • Twizzlers (1 bag rainbow variety)
  • Multi-striped ribbon (2-9ft. spools)
  • White tissue paper (5 sheets)
  • Double sided tape
  • Kitchen twine

I thought it was worth mentioning that everything on the above list was purchased at Wal-Mart Supercenter, with the exception of foil-wrapped chocolate coins found on trips to Target and Walgreens.

Snip striped ribbon into ten pieces, fifteen inches in length.  Wrap ribbon strips around cups and tie in knots, using double sided tape to prevent them from slipping.  Neaten ends with scissors.

Cut five sheets of tissue paper in half.  Crinkle into small balls and stuff into cup bottoms.  This provides necessary support and reduces the amount of candy needed.

With a sharp knife, cut Twizzlers in half.  Gather one of each color into a bundle, tying with twine approximately one inch from the bottom.  Repeat this step nine times.

Stand “rainbows” upright in cups, fill to the brim with skittles, insert a couple of gold coins, and voilà…

You’ve created ten flavorful favors fit for an Irish celebration!
