The iconic song “Purple People Eater”, made popular by Sheb Wooley in 1958, was the inspiration behind these whimsical, one-eyed treat bags!
You’ll need:
- Small purple treat sacks (Michael’s)
- Purple scrapbooking paper to match
- Bright green card stock
- Black card stock
- Scissors
- Mini clothes pins
- Glue stick
- Hot glue gun & sticks
- 2″ hole punch
- 3/4″ hole punch
- Assorted candy or favors
Eyeballs are created by punching green card stock with a 2″ hole punch.
Punch 2″ circles from purple paper, then cut in half for eyelids.
For pupils, punch black card stock with 3/4″ hole punch.
With scissors, cut 1/4″ strips and zig-zag shaped pieces 1 1/2″ wide from black card stock to form lashes.
To assemble eyes, start with a green circle. Place one purple half circle on top. Add a pupil and jagged lash.
A glue stick from my kids’ craft bin was used on all paper pieces.
Apply glue to the thin black strip of card stock, cover seam, trim ends to approximately 2 1/4″, and allow to dry.
Carefully attach completed eyeballs to clothes pins with a hot glue gun.
Fill bags with goodies, secure the tops with purple-eyed pins, and prepare to receive giggles of gratitude as you hand these delightfully ghastly gifts to departing guests!
