This Father’s Day…
Surprise dear old dad with fashionable necktie cupcakes!
Necktie Cupcakes
- 12 mini cupcakes (undecorated)
- 16oz. can chocolate frosting
- 1 gallon-size zipper bag
- White stick gum (Wrigley’s Doublemint)
- Blue stick gum (Wrigley’s Extra Peppermint)
- Fruit Stripe gum
- Cake confetti
- Light corn syrup
- Toothpicks
To create neckties, cut each stick of chewing gum in half crosswise with a clean pair of kitchen shears. Shape one end of gum into a point. Beginning at the pointed end, cut upwards along sides, tapering slightly.
Add polka dots to solid color neckties by dipping the tip of a toothpick into corn syrup. Dab a tiny amount on the back of cake confetti, then adhere to tie fronts. Tweezers are great for precise placement of dots.
For collars, cut white stick gum in half crosswise, then in half lengthwise. Shorten by cutting in half again. Stack two short pieces of gum on top of one another, aligning blunt edges. Trim opposite edges at an angle.
Fill a gallon-size zipper bag with chocolate frosting. Seal bag and snip one corner. Pipe frosting onto cupcakes.
Place one necktie in the center of each frosted cupcake. Arrange two collar pieces atop tie, securing with a tiny amount of corn syrup. Repeat until all cupcakes are decorated.
Serve and enjoy!
*Yields one dozen miniature tie-topped cupcakes.
