Sitting pretty atop miniature cupcakes…
These lovely ladies are not your garden-variety bugs!
Ladybug Cupcakes
- Miniature cupcakes (undecorated)
- 16oz. can vanilla frosting
- 16oz. can chocolate frosting
- Red, yellow, and purple gel food coloring
- Red, yellow, and purple sugar crystals
- Quart-sized resealable freezer bags
- Chocolate jimmies-sprinkles
- Junior Mints
- M&M’s Minis
Divide vanilla frosting among three mixing bowls. Using gel food coloring, tint a bowl of frosting red, another yellow, and the last purple. Transfer each color of frosting to its own zipper bag. Seal and snip one corner with clean kitchen shears.
Pour colored sugar crystals into three separate shallow bowls. To form the bodies of ladybugs, pipe a mound of frosting onto miniature cupcakes, then gently roll wet icing in matching sanding sugar until completely covered and sparkly.
Spoon chocolate frosting into a zipper bag. Seal and remove a tiny amount from one corner with shears. Pipe a thin, straight line down the center of each ladybug’s back.
For ladybug heads, use a dab of chocolate frosting to secure mint candies to the fronts of cupcakes.
Ladybug spots are mini brown chocolate-coated candies, attached with tiny drops of frosting.
For antennae, insert two chocolate jimmies just above each ladybug head… tweezers work great for precise placement.
Arrange lovely ladybug cupcakes on a platter.
Serve and enjoy!
*Fun projects like this, are a great way to get kids in the kitchen. They will love mixing frosting colors and creating with candy!
