Fresh from the farm…
These charming little chicks are certain to liven up any spring soirée!
Little Chick Cupcakes
- Miniature cupcakes
- 16 oz. can white frosting
- Shredded coconut
- Yellow food coloring
- Quart-sized zipper bags
- M&M’s
- M&M’s Minis
- Dubble Bubble/Chiclets (square gum)
To give chicks their feathery look, place the shredded coconut in a food processor. Add a few drops of yellow food coloring. Pulse until coconut is chopped and desired color is reached. Pour yellow coconut into a shallow bowl and set aside.
Using a food processor is not necessary, but it produces a finer texture and distributes color evenly. If you don’t have one, simply combine coconut and food coloring in a zipper bag, seal, and shake well.
Tint frosting yellow, then transfer to a resealable bag. Close tightly and snip one corner with kitchen shears. Pipe a mound of frosting onto each miniature cupcake. Holding cupcakes upside down, gently roll wet frosting in yellow coconut. Use your fingertips to lightly pack in place.
For eyes, arrange two mini brown candies side-by-side. To form a perfectly pointed beak, insert one corner of an orange chewing gum square into the frosting until a triangular shape remains visible. Create the illusion of plumage by standing three yellow M&M’s upright on the top of each chick’s head.
Serve and enjoy!
*Look for square chewing gum in the bulk candy machines located near the entrances/exits of supermarkets, restaurants, and convenience stores.
